Across the nation, local news is struggling to survive. We refuse to let that happen here. That’s why we’ve launched the KQED Legacy Challenge.

When you include a gift to KQED in your estate plan and share a few details with us by December 2024, our Legacy Challenge sponsors will make a matching gift in your honor to support current KQED programs. Simply share a few details about your future gift, and our Legacy Challenge sponsors will activate a matching gift in your honor equal to 10% of the estimated value of your gift, up to $10,000. If your gift is a specific sum, all you need to do is share that amount.

Share your future gift

The Legacy Challenge will run until December 31, 2024 or until our matching gift funds run out. If you have any questions or would like to discuss options for legacy giving, please contact us at 415-553-2230 or email legacy@kqed.org.

The future of public media is in your hands. Will you rise to the Challenge?

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of gifts will qualify for the KQED Legacy Challenge?

There are many types of future gifts that will qualify for the Challenge:

  • A gift in your will or living trust.
  • Name KQED a beneficiary of your retirement account, life insurance policy, donor-advised fund, or other financial account.
  • Establish a life income gift, such as a charitable gift annuity.

What if I don’t know the exact amount?

If your gift is a percentage of your estate or what remains after your loved ones are remembered, you just need to share your best estimate of what your gift might be worth today.

If your gift is estimated at less than $100,000, 10% of that value will be matched. If your gift is estimated at $100,000 or more, you will activate the maximum match of $10,000.

What if I change my plans in the future?

If your circumstances change, or you simply change your mind about leaving a gift to KQED, don’t worry – you are not obligated in the future by sharing the details of your gift today. We’d appreciate it if you’d let us know if there is a change, but we will always respect your right to change your plans.

I’m not sure I want to share details about my gift.

We will never pressure you to share any information you are not comfortable sharing – we only ask for the information necessary to activate the matching gift in your name, but the details will not be shared and we keep all information confidential.

When do I have to complete my plans and/or share my gift?

The Legacy Challenge will run until December 2024 or until our matching gift funds run out.

Can we talk?
