[...] Last blog I wrote about how current genetic tests aren’t that great at predicting your risk for common, complicated diseases like diabetes or Alzheimer’s. This time I thought I’d focus on what today’s genetic tests can be very good at and whether or not 23andMe does a good job with these. [...]

Hello Barry:

Sorry to hear about your health issues. I am an Insulin Dependent Diabetic (now anyway).

I started out with hypoglycemia, unfortunately at a time when many doctors thought that was "all in your head." I have progressed over the years to my now rather sorry state.

I was fortunate enough to run across one of the premier endocrinologists in this country, he keeps me as healthy as possible, and I am eternally grateful to him. I'm also fortunate enough after all these years to call him not just my physician, but a true friend. I also suffer from other endocrine disorders and hypertension.

Diabetes of any type is nothing to fool around with. You mentioned Cancer in your article. Diabetes can be just as nasty, so don't fool yourself.

If you'd like you can e-mail me personally, and I'd be happy to help in any way I can.

(Even though you never responded to my invitation to join Research Gate............. ;-)
