I'm also looking for images of Chabot in the 1960s after the remodel, especially of the planetarium completed in 1964. I have one photo of the Rotarians who funded the planetarium efforts in front of a plaque on the wall that I'd be happy to pass along, but I would love an image of the building.
Thanks!

I was looking for information on Chabot Observatory and found your blog. I practically grew up on the grounds of the observatory in the 50's. My grandfather, Emile Dulion, worked for the Oakland school department and was the caretaker of both the observatory and the grounds for many years. My grandparents lived in the house that was located on the property. I spent every summer with my grandparents until they retired when I was 14 years old. My family moved to southern California and I have not been back since that time. I'm 66 years old now and the memories of my experiences there as a young boy are fresh in my mind. I knew every room of the building from the two telescopes, planetary model rooms, the library on the second floor and even the basement where, some old seismic instruments and earthquake records were stored. I had the opportunity to view the moon and planets through both telescopes on many ocassions and remember one particular time when the planet Mars was close to earth and you could see the "canals" clearly. There was much speculation at that time that they were "man-made", which of course, we know now that this is not the case.

I wanted to write about my experiences there as a youth for my grandchildren and I was trying to find some images of the observatory that were taken during the 50's that I could include with my story. At one time my mother had a lot of black and white snapshots of both the inside and outside of the building, and the old house on the grounds, but they have, sadly, been lost over the years. Do you know of any images of the building and the old house on the property that I might be able to use? I would be greatful for any help or suggestions you may have. Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Robert
